Welcome

Dear Families,

We hope that your summer was both enjoyable and restful. We would like to extend a special welcome to all new families and staff to our school community.  We are looking forward to and wonderful year and our goal is to work with the school community in the spirit or collaboration and trust.

I would like to welcome the following staff members to our school:

Ms. Kerry Charron – Junior/Senior Kindergarten
Mr. Bryan Fitzgerald – Grade 1/2
Mr. Paul Bowman – Grade 5/6
Mr. Michael Patterson – Grade 7
Mrs. Stephanie De Jong – Educational Assistant
Ms. Dianne Schlegel - Educational Assistant
Mr. Paul Mendonca - Returning Vice-Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs. DeCoo on her retirement. She made an invaluable contribution to the St. Nicholas community and her presence will be greatly missed. We wish her nothing but success and happiness in the future.

School Council is an integral part of St. Nicholas, and members have done a great deal to support the needs of students.  We have three vacancies on council this year.  A nomination form is included in the package.  Nominations can be on behalf of someone else or you can self nominate for a position if you choose.  Please consider serving on school council this year.

This week students will receive agendas from classroom teachers.  The student agendas are an important way for parents, students and teachers to communicate with one another.  In addition, teaching staff will make personal calls as necessary to communicate your child’s progress at school.  Please send in $3.00 for each child in the school to support the cost of agendas.  At the beginning of each month a school newsletter will be posted on our school website http://stnicholas.wcdsb.ca. Classroom teachers will also send home a monthly newsletter with information about important events and curriculum updates.

As you know our school has been designated an ECO school.  We continue to look for ways to reduce waste at all levels within the school.  In this package you will find a sign-off sheet that indicates you have visited the website and viewed the contents of the parent handbook.  Please return this form with your son/daughter no later than September 17.

Special thanks to our hard working custodial staff Mr. Hinschberger, Ms. Concepcion and Mr. Murawsky for preparing our school for the students and staff.

Sincerely,
Paul Smith
Principal
