Waterloo West Accomodation Review

New Members Wanted

The Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) within the Waterloo Catholic District School Board is seeking new members. The CPIC exists to help the Waterloo Catholic District School Board further their goal of engaging parents in their children’s education, in order to improve student achievement. The CPIC is responsible for seeking the advice and ideas of school councils, other parents and partners as they plan and implement strategies to involve more parents at the regional level. We benefit from an active CPIC that has provided direction and support to a number of activities in the past (i.e., feedback on Board Improvement Plan, special speakers for the parent community, ‘Engaging Parents’ workshops for school administrators, teachers, and parents).

The Ministry of Education, based on a large body of significant research, believes that increased parent involvement will result in improved student achievement, reduced absenteeism, better behaviour and more confidence in children. The government also believes that increased parent involvement will benefit teachers, principals, trustees and board officials. Under the Ministry’s direction, each school board supports a Board-Level CPIC that is chaired by a parent. The membership includes a majority of parents (representing each family of schools), trustees, a representative from the Deanery, and has a direct link to the Director of Education.

The CPIC parent term of office is three years, and we are currently seeking five parent replacements. We hope you will consider becoming involved in this worthwhile activity! The CPIC meets monthly on Wednesdays through the school year. Further details can be found on the CPIC website (http://www.wcdsb.ca/info/pic/pic.html). The following table outlines the current membership of the Board level Parent Involvement Committee.
