St. Nicholas CES Halloween Dance-a-thon

Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to this event to make it such a huge success. Your contributions of baked goods were especially welcomed by our students. Due to your efforts we were able to raise over $8000 to assist with a variety of initiatives at St. Nicholas CES (e.g., purchase of new science equipment, robotics equipment, subsidizing the cost of busing). Thank you to all the parent volunteers who coordinated and volunteered to run this event. Your spirit has created a significant ripple today!

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 6th.

 Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Our annual parent/student/teacher conferences are scheduled for November 8th from 4 to 8 pm. Again, this year parents will be able to sign up electronically via . If you’re unable to secure a conference for that evening please touch base with your child’s teacher to set up another time or a phone conversation.

Not certain how to register? Please see the attached instructions. Feel free to call Mrs. Strong if you need further assistance.

 Mountain of Love

“T’is the season to be jolly!!!” But it is also the season for snow, cold weather and blizzards, not to mention colds, sneezes and coughs.

St. Nicholas CES is ready to host their 6th annual coat drive beginning next week. If you have any clean, gently-worn winter coats, mitts, hats, scarves and boots at home, please bring them to school to create our “Mountain of Love.” Last year our community supplied many children in other WCDSB schools with warm coats, mitts, hats, scarves and boots.

So let’s spread the love elsewhere in the area again this year and watch our mountain of love grow!

Please start looking around your house, ask other family members and let’s once again see our “Mountain of Love” in the front foyer reflect the kind, generous spirit of St. Nicholas. We will collect items until Dec. 6 so they can be delivered before Christmas.

Matthew 25:36 “I was naked, and you clothed me.”

With gratitude,

The Social Justice Team at St. Nicholas School

Remembrance Day Ceremony

This year Remembrance Day is on Sunday, November 11th. At St. Nicholas, we would still like to honour and remember those who have given so much, so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. We would like to invite you to join us for our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Monday, November 12th at 10:50am.

We’re looking for a parent volunteer who might be able to assist in a back up role for our ESNS daily lunch distribution. If you might be available between 11:40 am and 12:20 pm with two to three days’ notice, please let Mrs. Strong know.

 Traffic Flow/Travel Planning

We are working with our transportation department on our traffic flow concerns within our parking lot and on the surrounding streets. We’re looking for two or three parents who might be interested in sitting on a committee. If you’re interested, please let Mrs. Strong know.

 CAT 5 Field Testing

Over the course of the next month, students in Gr. 1 to 8 will participate in a field test of the Canadian Achievement Test version 5. St. Nicholas CES is one of 3 schools in the WCDSB participating in the field test. Feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.
